Back in the 80's when South African wines were introduced to Northern Ireland, they weren't the best examples and thus you may be put off, but wait! .. In the 90's the body which controlled wine production in South Africa was reformed to allow European standards in wine production. Growers have now included popular grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. Watch out for 'Chenin Blanc' wines which are sometimes known as 'Steen'.
