Porto

The name 'Port' is defined in law as wine supplied by Portugal and nowhere else. That said, 'Port style' wine can be found around the globe, Australia being a particular fine producer.

Port definitions; Ruby Port – blended 3 to 8 years old; Tawny Port – blended from wines in excess of 8 years old and can range to 30 years; Vintage Port – wine from a excellent year matured for only two years in cask then matured in bottle. The time before an excellent port is produced could be decades. Considerable decanting required. Late Bottled Vintage (LBV)- A single year production bottled in its 4th to 6th year hence 'late bottle'. Normally no decanting required. Madeira, cooked wine, heated for up to 6 month at 40 – 50 degrees C.
